Silencer Scout's Top Rimfire Picks of 2026

Last updated on May, 2026

Rimfire suppressors operate by a different set of rules than their centerfire counterparts. They are generally incompatible with centerfire cartridges even when bore size would otherwise allow it, but the restriction runs in both directions: centerfire suppressors are equally unsuitable for rimfire ammunition. The reason comes down to two characteristics of the .22 rimfire family. First, .22 ammunition burns dirty, leaving behind more fouling than centerfire powder. This buildup is why user-serviceable designs are the standard in this category, allowing shooters to disassemble and clean the baffles regularly. Second, rimfire cartridges produce significantly lower muzzle pressure than centerfire loads. That lower pressure environment allows manufacturers to use lighter materials and thinner baffles than would be safe or practical in a centerfire can, which translates directly to suppressors that are smaller, lighter, and more affordable than their centerfire equivalents.

Most full sized rimfire suppressors will sound mostly the same if they were designed in the last few years. The only perceivable metric they really compete on in sound is first round pop. For our recommendations we first ensured that the cans performed to this baseline standard of excellent and then screened for first round pop mitigation.

With that baseline established, we then compare key user features such as, weight, size, ease of use, modularity, and other non tangibles such as warranty and responsiveness of the manufacturer.

This can earns our top pick on the strength of its simplicity, ease of use, wide availability, and strong first round pop performance. Titanium construction hits a practical sweet spot: better longevity than aluminum and significantly lighter than stainless steel. For a modest price premium, it is the ideal material choice for this application. Installation and servicing require nothing more than a wrench on the integrated flats, with no specialty tools needed. Each baffle in the stack features a unique locking key, making it impossible to reassemble incorrectly after cleaning.

Other cans meet similar construction standards, but Otter Creek Labs sets itself apart with active social media support and genuine transparency about design intent. That openness removes most of the guesswork from the buying decision, and combined with the hardware itself, makes this an easy top pick.

An older design, but one that remains a genuinely relevant choice. The Mustang is a modular .22 can with a removable front section that reduces overall length and weight to just 3.4 inches and 2.4 ounces in its short configuration. That compact form is a handy option for small .22 handguns where keeping the package short and light matters, or for a 16-inch barrel that doesn't need much help to begin with. A long barrel bleeds off so much pressure on its own that the short configuration is more than enough to take the edge off what little sound remains at the muzzle.

The Mustang uses a titanium-sleeved base to protect the serial number with aluminum baffles in the stack. This construction comes with fire rate restrictions, though we expect the vast majority of users will never come close to pushing those limits in normal use. Rugged does offer the Oculus22 as a stainless steel alternative, but it comes in significantly heavier in the longer configuration, which is where most users will spend most of their time.
