Picking the Best 5.56/.223 low profile K sized suppressor
Last updated on April 2026
So why are you here shopping for a short K can? Maybe you have a short firearm that you want to keep short. Maybe you have a long firearm that would become unwieldy if you attached a boat anchor to its end. Maybe you are just trying to take the bite out of the shot when training, knowing you will be wearing hearing protection anyway. For myself, it is the desire to find a suppressor that just disappears on the end of a firearm.
Old wisdom says K cans can never be quiet, and that no can under 5" could do more than achieve tolerable noise levels. 2025 proved that paradigm has expired. With the advent of printed cans, we have seen countless designs outperform the full-sized flagship cans of the last decade. The rules have changed, and the short can market has changed with them.

One of the hottest releases of the year, the Tisha launched with a Pew Science review that immediately took the top spot on the 5.56 chart, all while measuring just 4.1" long and posting class-leading sound and backpressure numbers. This can is a genuine step change in suppressor technology, earning it a spot on our K can list, our top picks for sound suppression, and our top picks for 2026.
What is the catch? For all its advanced baffle geometry and complex flow paths, the Tisha leans hard into one pronounced trade-off: a very large outer diameter. This can is thick. Check out our write up on suppressor size for a write up on how size changes a can for better or worse.

The Kitty Kat from Combat Application Technologies takes the performance of their popular White Bread and works on the blast chamber to reclaim as much space as possible. The can uses a very shallow baffle depth and a proprietary AI Nano mounting system to deliver familiar performance in a smaller package. While it won't sound as quiet as the Tisha, it comes with a compact integrated mount and a more manageable outer diameter, making it quiet enough for most duty use cases.
This can is ideal for the 14.5" or 16" barreled 5.56 that needs the strength of an Inconel can but wants to protect the maneuverability of an carbine.

The next two suppressors are very similar to each other. While the Tisha beats both on pure sound performance, its large diameter and weight are deal breakers for some shooters. The Echocore and FOR Systems cans are more typical in size and profile, and close competitors with each other, separated by minor differences in sound and backpressure.
The Sector 556 Compact performs well on backpressure and delivers a strong sound profile for bystanders. It's hub compatible, giving it much of the appeal of the CAT Kitty Kat while freeing you from the AI Nano Spooky mount. Same Inconel construction, slightly larger size profile, and hub freedom. We find this to be an excellent general use can for those looking for a suppressor that is small, balanced, and with decent sound.

Like the Echocore above, the Tisha beats both on pure sound performance, its large diameter and weight are deal breakers for some shooters. The FOR Systems and Echocore are close competitors, separated by only minor differences in sound and backpressure.
Unlike the Echocore Sector 556 Compact, the Recce is built from titanium, making it the lightest can on this list at 3oz under the Tisha Ti. For those running this on a 16"+ rifle, those few ounces may be worth the trade in sound performance relative to the Tisha. This is not a loud can by any means, sounding similar to the Echocore, with marginally louder environmental sound but quieter at the shooter's ear. We think it's a good fit for the marksman running a semi-auto 5.56.

Other Can’s to Consider

CAF556 TH
Jaguar Silencers
This can would be shorter and lighter than the SAW Tisha while being similar in volume and potentially sound. This can has some eyebrow raising stats and is from a new company making us apprehensive about placing this high on the list, but leaving us very curious. We are currently getting our hands on one to review next to the Tisha.
